Antivoid is an Ableton Live Extension that listens to and responds to the rhythm of a clip. Right-click a MIDI or Audio clip in Live and Antivoid finds every grid position where nothing happens: a rest in a MIDI clip, or the gap between two warp markers in an Audio clip. It writes new MIDI material into that empty space to a new track, generating a phrase that responds to the original. Flip the Invert switch and the logic reverses: notes land exactly where the source already has content, giving you a second voice that tracks the same rhythm with its own pitch, velocity, and articulation.

RHYTHM DETECTION vs. PATTERN REPETITION

  • Reads MIDI note start times or Audio warp marker positions to infer the clip's underlying grid, from 1/32 up to whole notes
  • Places notes only at rest positions by default: the gaps the source clip leaves open
  • Switches to Invert mode to place notes at event positions instead, mirroring the source directly
  • Filters the detected positions with Count (every-Nth), Offset (which subset), Exclude (skip 1/4 or 1/8 beat slots), and Density (probabilistic thinning), applied in that order
  • Generates 1 to 16 independently varied clips from a single pass, each re-rolling every stochastic parameter
  • Routes output to the first MIDI track to the right of the source, creating one automatically if none exists, regardless of whether the source itself is MIDI or Audio

Antivoid treats MIDI and Audio sources as the same problem because the only thing it actually reads is timing. A MIDI clip's note starts and an Audio clip's warp markers both reduce to the same question: where is there content, and where is there silence? That's why the output is always written to a MIDI track even when you right-click an Audio clip. Antivoid isn't generating audio, it's generating a rhythmic response, and a response needs to live somewhere editable.

Every note parameter uses the same four-control shape (Anchor, Min, Max, Chance) on purpose, so once you understand one row you understand all of them. The exception is Tie, where the Anchor column holds a Density gate instead of a base value and Min/Max define an extension range rather than a deviation. That inconsistency is deliberate: a tie isn't a value with a spread around it, it's a binary event with a duration, so it needed a different shape than Pitch or Velocity.
INDEPENDENT CONTROLS

  • Sets Pitch, Velocity, and Length each with an Anchor, a Min/Max deviation range, and a Chance gate controlling how often deviation applies at all
  • Adds ties across additional grid intervals using two independent probability gates, so the overall tie rate is shaped by both at once
  • Applies random whole-octave displacement before the semitone pitch deviation is calculated
  • Snaps every generated pitch, including harmonic voices, to Live's active scale and root note when Scale Aware is on
  • Stacks up to five additional voices (V2 to V6), each at its own scale-degree offset with an independent firing Chance
